Healthcare Information Governance (HIG) Sub-Committee

Purpose

The purpose of the Privacy and Confidentiality Sub-Committee is:

  • To jointly with other PHISC sub-committees, identify industry-wide challenges pertaining to the transmission of private healthcare information between organisations and
  • To standardise existing standards protecting the privacy, confidentiality, security and integrity of patient information in the process of health data transmission or storage
  • and to define new standards.

Scope

The sub-committee limits its focus to those industry-wide challenges which involve:

  • The review on a regular basis of the changing regulatory framework affecting privacy and confidentiality of health data transmission and recommendations to improve the level of compliance by the industry.
  • To identify if additional “protection” may be needed in order to satisfy the constitutional requirements of reasonability and justifiability of disclosure of private health information.
